This is the one category that really counts. Sure Uncle Bob and Aunt Virginia just got their brand new 25 mega pixel (or so the box says) point and shoot digital cameras and everything is set to go. But ask yourself, at your child's upcoming first birthday, your son's basketball playoff game, Easter egg hunt, family reunion, etc.. do you really want to count on Uncle Bob to take the photos?
This can be one of the most rewarding, as well as most stressful types of photography. Most of these events are once in a lifetime kind of shots. No re-takes, no do-over.. period!
There are situation where you will have to go "traditional" in the way you pose your subjects, such as cutting the cake at a wedding, blowing out candles on a birthday cake, etc. I personally get the most enjoyment, and positive feedback, from just moving around and getting the best possible candid shots. People are so much more natural if you just stand back and let things naturally occur. Usually that's when you get a chance to capture that one moment in time that will touch somebody's heart and will be part of some special memories.
My wife has recently become an aunt for the first time and my Nephew is probably one of the most documented babies out there. That's okay because you don't want to miss something. I'm a strong believer in keeping a camera in your pocket pretty much at all times. But there are also times when you would just rather stand back, enjoy the moment and let a professional or even semi-professional step in.
That's when you call me.
